Herbaceous Perennials
Some perennials are evergreen and retain their foliage throughout the year but most die back in the colder months. However, below ground the roots are alive and well, and new growth will appear in the spring.
Ornamental Trees & Shrubs
Ornamental trees and shrubs can give beautiful shape and structure to your garden and are often selected for their display of flowers, scent or fruit. Ornamentals make a good focal point and add interest to garden design. We stock both trees and shrubs.
Conifers
Conifers are hardy evergreen species from the pine family that can add a range of green/yellow/blue shades to the garden and often add colour all year round. Conifers will add structure and screening to gardens and can be used to create a backdrop feature in larger gardens. Our staff will advise you on the best choice for your garden.
Heathers
Heathers will give a colourful garden display with little maintenance. They are best planted in flowerbeds devoted to themselves except for perhaps a few conifers to add height and form.
Grasses & Bamboo
Grasses can add structure and drama to a garden, are easy to maintain and add a contemporary feel in garden design. One of the most popular in the Grass family is Bamboo, an evergreen which is the fastest growing plant on earth. Bamboo can be "clumped" or "running" and can be planted as a decorative feature or run to create a screen or barrier in the garden.
Bedding Plants & Bulbs
Flowerbeds are a popular element of many gardens; bedding plants usually germinate, flower and die off in a season. We have a wide range of bedding plants available throughout the year.
Climbers & Hedging
Hedges are a great way to add privacy to a garden or to mark the boundary of an area. We can recommend different types of hedging from quick growing barriers to ornamental topiary. Alternatively, if a plant display is wanted quickly, a climber or vine is often a popular choice. Climbers can create a feature over walls, fences, pergolas - or anything you'd like to camouflage in the garden. We carry a range of plants for hedges and climbers suited to different areas and conditions.
Fruit Trees & Soft Fruit
We have a selection of fruit-bearing trees, including stone fruits that are suitable for growing in the North East. Our range includes small specimens through to larger well established plants, some of which will bear edible fruit. Many fruit trees will seasonally blossom adding variety to your garden throughout the year.
Palms & Ferns
Palms and Ferns can add texture and contrast in garden design. Some are suited to full sun and others to shade, and choosing the right plant for your garden is crucial with this family. We carry small plants suited to pots right up to large palms that would make a stunning focal point in any garden.
