Autumn Days in the Garden

Autumn Days in the Garden

Autumn is a great time for reflection - take a look back at the successes and failures of this year's garden. Decide what you like, and what you want to remove.

Planning for spring should be a priority at this time of the year. With a little preparation now your garden could be alive with flowering bulbs to mark the beginning of spring 2012.

Autumn/winter is an ideal time to landscape your garden because they are the best seasons to move existing plants and once complete you can have a beautiful garden ready for next year.

This is an excellent time to tidy up the garden before the winter arrives, removing summer bedding plants and dead-heading herbaceous perennials and roses. Other jobs to do in the garden are to divide perennials and bog plants to prevent overcrowding and then replant in a new position, or give away surplus to friends. With a little preparation now your garden could be alive with flowering bulbs to mark the beginning of spring 2012.

Feed roses and half hardy shrubs with sulphate of potash to help make them less susceptible to disease. The cold and frost will help break down the soil and also kill off some of the weed seedlings.

At Wilkinsons we are aware that not everyone has the time to do all of these jobs so we offer a seasonal maintenance service.
